Manglik dosha (also Mangal Dosh) describes a birth chart where Mars sits in houses traditionally associated with strain in marriage — specifically the 1st (self), 4th (home), 7th (partnership), 8th (longevity), and 12th (loss). Some schools include the 2nd house. The check is run from three references: the Lagna (rising sign), the natal Moon, and Venus (significator of relationships).
Common partial cancellations (varying by tradition):
- Mars in its own sign (Aries / Scorpio) or exalted in Capricorn
- Mars retrograde at birth
- Both partners are Manglik (mutual cancellation)
- The reading dissolves after age 28 in some traditions
Common remedies include Tuesday/Mars-day fasting, Hanuman worship, donating red items, and wearing red coral (only after a chart-based recommendation — gemstones can be activating in the wrong direction).
